What Is National Escape Game Day?
"This is the first-ever National Escape Game Day, but we plan to make it a tradition! We’ve worked hard to make it something special, and we’re confident our community is going to love it," said Cheek.
Believe it or not, National Escape Game Day is celebrated on the same day as Escape Room Day, a worldwide event! Started as an initiative of Escape Rooms Nederland in October of 2016, Escape Room Day has evolved into a global celebration for escape room lovers across the world!
Why October 1st?
As they planned the first Escape Room Day, Escape Rooms Nederland wanted to find a date that would be a bit of a puzzle itself. First, they started with the word “escape room”. Based on their positions in the alphabet, the sum of all the letters is 110. (Ex: e = 5, s = 19, etc.)
The number 110 is the same as the date 1-10, or October 1st. In the Netherlands, they put the date before the month! (dd/mm/yyyy). So “escape room” added together numerically led to October 1 officially becoming Escape Room Day and now National Escape Game Day!
