How to Plan Your Virtual Team Building Event with The Escape Game

Posted: Friday, Mar 26 2021

Team building is an essential part of maintaining a thriving and vibrant company culture. Even when team members are working remotely (or especially when team members are working remotely) they need to be able to feel like they’re one of the group, like they’re engaging and cooperating. Only a team that likes and trusts one another will be able to perform at the best of their collective capabilities, and virtual team building helps to facilitate that.

The Escape Game offers a new and fun way for team members to work together as a group, in a setting that is both fun but challenging, a place where new skills will be discovered, new leaders will emerge, and where everyone will laugh and have good bonding time.

The Escape Game provides two different kinds of virtual team building activities, Remote Adventures and Unlocked For Teams. Both have their advantages and offer unique gameplay experiences that your team won’t soon forget.

But how do you organize such an undertaking? How does an escape room work in the virtual world, and how will your team be able to get involved?

How to Plan Your Event

The first thing that you need to do to begin your virtual team building adventure is to have the event organizer, be it a team lead, a manager, an office manager, or a CEO, determine how many people are going to be involved in the team building experience. It’s totally ok if you don’t know for sure! We can work with a range as we start planning together.

We can accommodate huge groups. Teams of eight to 500+ can get together and play a virtual escape room experience. We have the technology and the manpower to make it work, and we specialize in handling large corporate events.

So whether you’re just looking for a little fun for your small department, or whether you want to take the whole company on an escape room adventure, we can accommodate.

Step One: Contact Us by Web, Phone, or Email

Step 1 is reaching out to our team. You can do this by calling (615) 488-3163 or submitting a form on our Virtual Team Building page. For larger groups, we recommend that you give us two to three weeks lead time just to make sure that you are getting the time slots and game rooms that you’re looking for. Even if you have just a few days, we can usually find a time that will work for your event.

Step Two: Choose Your Activity

There are two virtual options to choose from: Remote Adventures and Unlocked for Teams. You can also bring your team to one of our store locations. You can view our locations here. If you don’t see your city, don’t worry, we’ve got several new locations on the way.

Remote Adventures

The most similar to a traditional escape room experience, Remote Adventures can accommodate from four to 500+ people. Larger groups will be split into teams of eight. Each group is greeted on a Zoom call by a Host who will provide instructions, clues and laughs along the way. Your host will also introduce your Game Guide. The Game Guide is an actual person in an actual escape room streaming live. Your team will give the Game Guide commands: “move forward”, “open that door”, “try that key”. They’re your eyes and ears in the game and it is through them–and the ingenuity of your virtual team on the Zoom call–that you’ll the complete the mission and escape the room.

Unlocked For Teams

Unlike Remote Adventures, there is no real-world room you’re escaping from. Unlocked for Teams is a Zoom-based race. You’ll start together in one giant Zoom call where you’ll learn the rules and then be split into teams of 5-7 using Zoom Breakout Rooms. Groups will find clues, watch videos, solve puzzles, and whichever Zoom team completes their mission first, wins the day! If at any time your group has questions, there’s always a Game Guide ready to jump in and assist. The beauty of Unlocked for Teams is that it takes place entirely in the digital realm, so there’s no limit to how many people you can bring to the game. We can take 30 or 3000–or more!

Step Three: Provide All the Relevant Details

Once you know how many people you’re bringing, which experience you want, and when you want to do it, you will work together with our Event Coordinators to make the vision become a reality. We will work hand-in-hand with you to make sure that you’re getting all the answers you need in a timely fashion and that nothing will fall by the wayside.

Finally, when all the details are hashed out, we’ll set up payment and send you a confirmation with simple instructions for how to join the event (just click the Zoom link!).

Step Four: Enjoy!

That’s truly all there is to it! You’ll learn a lot about your team in these games. With everyone working under a deadline, you’ll see how your team communicates and interacts under pressure. Perhaps most importantly, it’s a chance for your team to let their hair down and enjoy the experience, growing together and having a blast.
